We are a small, specialized breeder of warmbloods and warmblood crosses based in southern Alberta, Western Canada. We describe ourselves as a boutique breeder because we raise only a limited number of foals each year, allowing us to give them the individual care and attention they deserve. While we currently focus mainly on dressage bloodlines, we have also bred a select few jumping and eventing prospects over time.

We breed what we know best: versatile sporthorses suitable for amateur riders.

Our breeding program centers around the bloodlines of Rubinstein, Donnerhall, Florestan, and Ferro, aiming to combine the exceptional temperament and trainability of these classic lines with the modern athleticism and conformation of horses like Zack and Sandro Hit.

Though we are breeders, we consider ourselves first and foremost foal raisers.

From day one, all of our foals are handled, cuddled, groomed, and loved. They begin learning to wear a halter during their first week of life, and over the next few months, they develop trust in us while also learning the foundations of good horse behavior.

We don’t claim to be unique in our methods – in fact, we believe that all responsible breeders should follow the same practices.

At Formosus, we focus on what we do best: providing foals with the best possible start through early handling, studying bloodlines and genetics, and continuously educating ourselves on equine behavior and training techniques.

When you purchase a foal from us, you can be assured that it has been raised with patience, care, and consistency. A foal born here is well on its way to becoming a well-mannered equine citizen; the rest of the journey is in your hands!
